    Isaiah 49:15-16 (KJV)
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

As a family we are doing a one year Bible reading plan and I love it! But right now we are reading through the book of I Chronicles and some of the chapters are mostly names. Each family member reads the new testament reading quietly but for the Old Testament reading we listen to an audio reading together, which is great, especially when its a chapter of names. What a dry bite! As I was listening I was praying, “Lord, please show me the why of all these names”

1 Chronicles 25:8-9 (KJV)
8 And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.
9 Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph: the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and sons were twelve:

25:31
31 The four and twentieth to Romamtiezer, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve.

This is the abreviated version of the appointment

of the singers of the tribe of Levi. It was 24 groups of 12 for a total of 288.

While listening to this reading, a truth began to dawn on me. The singers were the Levites, the tribe of the priests. The New Testament believers are a kingdom of priests; so whenever we read about the priests, we need to pay special attention, because it’s probably pertinent to our day.

So perhaps God was thinking ahead of that New Testament throng, singing the song of the redeemed. Do the names matter now? Just like he knows the stars by name, he knows your name and mine, and they are recorded in his book, the book of life.

Then in chapter 28 we have 12 groups of 24,000 men employed in Davids’ kingdom, for a total of 288,000. Rev. Speaks of the 144,000 redeemed of the 12 tribes of Israel, Perhaps 288,000 is a number representing the whole of the elect from both testaments, old and new. Twelve is the number of completeness, and here we have 12x12x2.

Another tedious reading is the details of the inheritance of the 12 tribes in Caanan Land. Again, why do the details matter so much? But in the spiritual sense, that is our spiritual inheritance.

1 Peter 1:4-5 (KJV)
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

The point is that here the details matter. It matters who is going to enjoy the Eternal Good Land and who is not. It matters to God intensely, and it should matter to us. So if this reading is boring to you now, just remember that when you draw your last breath, it will immediately become a matter of greatest importance; no; the only thing that matters at all! So thank God for those boring readings because it shows that God really cares about his own! Glory be to his name!
